Living the martial art life?
I have been reading countless books, listened to many teachers and practioners of many martial art diciplines. I concluded that I would love to study a kung fu type class (wing chun is in my mind) but I dont want to go to a “mc dojo”. My ideal way of study was to learn while immensed in culture. I am planning to attend university in Tokyo and I have asked and searched for schools but it seems that it exists but its just not on the net anywhere. So basically I want to get the ball rolling where I can study maybe with a host family while going to school. Oh, and before I get ranted on, I do know that kung fu is a chinese art and not a Japanese art, but my major is international business with focus on asia so I would be possibly be living in China at some point of my life.

If you are going to do that, your best bet is to at the least familiarize yourself with the style and movements. As you most likely know that Kung Fu has very fluid movements. I am in Mixed Martial Arts and I went in with no experience and I assure you it is much harder that way.

Believe it or not, Japanese culture does not particularly welcome Chinese martial arts. If you are going to Tokyo, you will find Shotokan, Judo, and jujitsu very easily. Aikido too. There are, or course, lots of other karate styles around there, but Shotokan is big.
You have a much better chance of finding good WC instruction near you. It’s easy to get good instruction – know your goals, interview as many instructors as possible, and ask the right questions. You interview should include watching a few classes (not just one) and taking some if they are offered. Most schools have inexpensive intro courses, so ask about that when you think you have found a good one.

Karate, Tokyo, and all over Japan.
Karate is smooth, and an awesome art to study.

Kind of ironic going to the capital of Karate to study Kung Fu. I’m going to provide an interesting link, run by a Chinese American and perhaps the most published man in martial arts. He runs a retreat in California where a few applicants go every year.
Good luck.

Why not go to school in Hong Kong or look into Japanese arts? Kenjutsu in Tokyo would be cool.
